Christian Clermont, PhD

Senior Research Scientist

Dr. Christian Clermont completed his PhD in Kinesiology (Biomechanics) and a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Calgary. He is also a trained professional in pattern recognition methods, data analytics, and machine learning to quantify the complex nature of human movement. Much of his research has focused on the use of wearable technology for the collection of typical and atypical biomechanics data in the fields of health and sports science. He has also worked on several industry projects with companies such as adidas, Anta, Superfeet, WiiV, and Prevent Biometrics to develop, evaluate, and validate products to improve athletic performance and reduce the risk of injury.

Breann Worobets, MKin

Applied Research Technician

Breann brings an exercise physiology and human performance perspective to research in biomechanics. She has gained extensive experience in data collection by testing many elite athletes using various pieces of equipment and performing many different protocols. Her detail orientated qualities help contribute to accurate and reliable data collection required for companies such as Lululemon and Under Armour. She also has been able to help guide practicum students in applying their knowledge to real world situations.

Monica Russell, MSc

Research Scientist

Monica obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biomechanics and a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering, both from the University of Calgary. She was part of the Wearable Technology Research and Collaboration training program during graduate school, receiving a specialization in wearable tech. During her studies, she gained invaluable skills in motion capture data collection and post-processing, as well as multiple coding languages, machine learning concepts, and scientific writing. She officially joined the Sport Product Testing team in November 2022 after completing a practicum placement with them for her Master’s degree. Monica is excited to apply her academic knowledge to her work with Sport Product Testing and contribute to the growing industry of sports apparel and wearable technology.

Gabriella Durante, BSc

Applied Research Technician

Gabriella is a University of Calgary graduate with an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biomechanics. She is currently a graduate student pursuing a Master of Science in Kinesiology, specializing further in Biomechanics, while also playing on the Varsity Women’s Hockey team at the University of Calgary. During her studies, Gabriella has been involved in research projects involving motion capture and inertial measurement units, honing her skills with data collection, data analysis, and scientific writing. Gabriella first got introduced to the Sport Product Testing team in September 2021 as a practicum student and has now continued the relationship as she works through her graduate degree. Gabriella brings an athletic and academic background to help Sport Product Testing clients enhance their products.

Josh Ellis, BSc

Applied Research Technician

Josh studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Calgary, with a minor in Biomedical Engineering. During his undergraduate studies, he conducted research at the McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health, focusing on walking aids, prosthetics, and motion capture. As a Research Technician, Josh leads data collection and analysis for various projects examining footwear, sensors, and biomechanics in running – bringing a unique engineering perspective to sport science and product innovation. In his free time, he enjoys cross-country skiing, mountain biking, and competing in triathlons.

Julia Russell, BSc

Applied Research Technician

Julia graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mind Sciences from the University of Calgary in 2024. She interned with Sport Product Testing in the summer of 2023, volunteered on various projects, and officially joined the team in 2024. During her degree, she gained valuable insights into brain function and movement, as well as foundational knowledge in biomechanics, exercise physiology, and psychology. Working at SPT has allowed Julia to expand her understanding of these areas while developing practical skills in motion capture, economy testing, and perception research – and she’s eager to apply her skills to new projects and help push the boundaries of sport science.
